ASH renewable energy experience
The range of renewable energy projects that ASH design + assessment have become involved with over the last decade include:
- Biomass and waste to energy
- Hydroelectric projects
- Wind farm projects
- Micro generation
ASH renewable energy generation projects
ASH is currently working on some of the biggest renewable energy generation projects in the UK, including:
- Viking wind farm (over 500 MW) in Shetland
- Pairc wind farm (over 200 MW) on Lewis
- Glendoe hydro electric scheme (100 MW) near Fort Augustus, which will be Scotland's first large-scale hydroelectric power station for 50 years.
ASH's role involves the provision of specialist environmental advice in all aspects of the EIA process for renewable energy generation projects. This includes project management, consultations, design iteration and production of environmental statements. ASH's in house team of specialists focus on the landscape and visual impact assessment, and also the planning, land use and recreational aspects of the assessment. For other specialist advice we draw on our team of sub consultants as required.
ASH has also worked on wind farm capacity studies for Fife Council and South Lanarkshire Council, identifying areas of search for wind turbines. ASH provided advice on the scale of turbines acceptable in the areas of search and the landscape sensitivities and potential visual impacts as criteria for verification of the defined areas. The work in Fife also included advice on the potential siting of appropriate wind turbine locations off the coast of Fife.
ASH also provides ongoing advice to renewable energy developers, post environmental statement:
- Giving evidence at Public Inquiry if required
- Providing environmental advice during the contract procurement
- Auditing the environmental aspects on site during the implementation of the renewable energy development
