Renewables Obligations (Scotland) Orders of 2002 and 2004
The government has set a target that 10% of electricity supplies within the United Kingdom should be generated from renewable sources by 2010, with an aspiration to achieve 20% renewable energy generation by 2020. In Scotland, the Scottish Goverment is encouraging, through the Renewables Obligations (Scotland) Orders of 2002 and 2004, the development of electricity generation from renewable energy sources in Scotland, with a target of 18% by 2010 and 40% by 2020.
Such targets are leading to many renewable energy generation developers requesting connections to the electricity network, particularly in the north of Scotland. This is placing a new and significant requirement on the transmission system for energy distribution.
ASH energy distribution services
ASH is working with energy companies to assist in the reinforcement of energy transmission infrastructure. This has included carrying out routeing analysis for new connections to establish the environmental implications of a variety of overhead line, underground cable and sub-sea / sub-loch route options or energy distribution.
This pioneering approach has enabled the projects (such as the North Argyll Reinforcement and the Kintyre to Hunterston connection) to be environmentally led from the outset, and ensuring the alternatives to energy distribution are fully explored at an early stage.
